When clients receive their 72-hour assessment report, the most common question is about the gap between inlet temperature and junction temperature on hash boards. Understanding that gap is essential for deciding whether a unit fits your deployment environment.

Inlet Temperature

Inlet temperature measures the air entering the miner’s front grille. In our chamber, inlet is held near 24°C. On your farm, inlet depends on rack position, ducting, and ambient conditions. A rear-row unit in a poorly ventilated container might see 32°C inlet even when the room reads 24°C.

Junction Temperature

Junction temperature is the actual chip operating temperature—the number that triggers throttling. On most ASICs we assess, throttling begins between 80°C and 90°C junction, depending on firmware version and manufacturer.

The Delta That Matters

A healthy unit at 24°C inlet typically shows junction temperatures 35–50°C above inlet under sustained load. If your inlet is 30°C and junction hits 85°C, you have a 55°C delta—acceptable. If inlet is 24°C and junction is already 82°C, the delta of 58°C suggests marginal cooling headroom that will cause problems when summer ambient rises.
